Jackie's tribute

Additional Information

My wife, Cindy and I were privileged to work with Jackie for nearly 3 years near the start of RiverGrace as an English fellowship within Hong Kong Evangelical Yan Yue Church. Jackie's ability to communicate and work in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural setting was a great asset. Jackie was a selfless, faithful, dependable and efficient colleague in all she did. She had a big smile and a big heart and seemed eager for an adventure, or something new.

During her time at RiverGrace, she led a group for ethnic minority youth. Her love and acceptance of them made a big impression on their lives. Many of them came to visit her in the hospital shortly before she went to be with Jesus.

The Lord started weaving our lives together back in 1989. At that time Jackie was working in a trading company. Her lady boss shared the gospel with Jackie and she began her faith walk with the Lord. The lady boss is the sister of Pastor Tommy Hui who is presently the Associate Pastor of RiverGrace.

During Jackie's illness and hospitalizations, we were always encouraged when we visited her. Even during painful times, she was able to smile and give encouragement to those who came.

In January, Jackie came back to visit our RiverGrace family. She shared with us her journey regarding her illness and we all gathered around and prayed with her for whatever was coming ahead. Little did we know that she would be gone so soon.

God’s plans are amazing, yet sometimes we question such things as why Jackie had to leave us so early and quickly. But we’re confident of this promise from John 12:24. “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.”

May the fruit of Jackie’s life continue here on earth, though she is now present with Jesus, whom she followed and to whom she dedicated her life
